Judy Brown was born in Cheshire and studied English and American literature at Cambridge and Newcastle upon Tyne universities. She resumed writing after a thirteen year interval (which started in the early nineties following a move to Hong Kong) and ‘Loudness’, which won the Poetry Society’s Hamish Canham Prize in 2005, was the first of Judy’s new poems to be published. Judy Brown is Poet in Residence at the Wordsworth Trust at Dove Cottage in Grasmere, England for 2013. Her first poetry collection Loudness (Seren Books, 2011) was shortlisted for the Forward/Felix Dennis and Fenton Aldeburgh first collection prizes.
She was previously a Poet-in-Residence at the Wordsworth Trust, and has taught workplace writing for the Royal Literary Fund, as well as working as Finance Lawyer in London, and in Hong Kong for four years. Her publications include Crowd Sensations (Seren, 2016) and Loudness (Seren, 2011).
